was the name of a cool 60s folk rock guy-its not about him I just dug his name-we had this large empty ending for the song because everything we did was on the fly and instant so we thought 'someone should talk' and lo there was Hamish from the clean hanging and banging bits so I scribbled some gibberish and bought him some beer and thusly he in one go became the heart of the song -god bless yer Hamish
